James Melville Arthur Gray attended Edinburgh Institution / Melville College from 1926 to 1938.
After school he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He was also a Town Councillor Linlithgow, Councillor Lothian Region, Chairman and Founder Linlithgow Union Canal Society, President Linlithgow Golf Club, Founder Member and Chairman Linlithgow Round Table, Member Linlithgow and Bo’ness Probus. MBE
The portrait of Melville, in his school uniform, was donated to the School by his daughters and is now on display in the Dean Church. In March 2019, his daughters were present at the Dean to unveil the portrait.
