Purpose of the Trust
The primary aim of the Melville College Trust is to promote, advance, and support charitable purposes as a grant-giving organization, providing financial and other support to Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools (Scottish charity no. SC009747, “ESMS”).
The Trust’s grants focus on, but are not limited to:
- Bursaries and Prizes: Supporting pupils through financial assistance and awards.
- Periodic Payments: Contributing to ESMS facilities such as boarding houses, playing fields, equipment, and school clubs.
- Maintenance of War Memorials: Preserving ESMS war memorials as a mark of respect and remembrance.
- Recognition of Former Pupils: Honoring the legacy of ESMS alumni of notable repute or standing, as judged solely by the Trust Governors.
Generous contributions over the years have also come from former pupils of Edinburgh Institution and Melville College, further enriching the Trust’s mission.
Funding and Grants
The Trust provides annual bursaries to ESMS, funded through income and capital growth generated by its investments.
In addition to bursaries, the Trust awards grants for extra-curricular and school-related projects that would not otherwise receive funding. These grants benefit a wide range of pupils and help enrich the overall school experience.
